Cannabis sales and psilocybin rescheduling bills are approved by the Virginia Senate and sent to the House
The Virginia Senate on Tuesday 7th approved bills to start adult-use cannabis sales and establish a statewide psilocybin advisory board while moving the psychedelic to a lower schedule under state statute.

The psilocybin measure, sponsored by Sen. Ghazala Hashmi (D), passed 25-15.
The legislation would create a psilocybin advisory board to advise on the issue, while moving the psychedelic from Schedule I to Schedule III under state law.
This comes a month after a different Virginia House of Delegates subcommittee rejected a proposal to decriminalize psilocybin more broadly.
The goal of the advisory board would be to “develop a long-term strategic plan for establishing therapeutic access to psilocybin services and monitor and study federal laws, regulations, and policies regarding psilocybin,”.
Bipartisan legislators in more than a dozen states have been working on psychedelics reform legislation so far this session, which reflects the rising support for eliminating the criminalization of natural plants and fungi and recognizing the medicinal use of some entheogens.
