Shroom chocolates offer loads of benefits, like turning the shroomy taste of dirt into the nectar of the gods. They're also easier to microdose with and easier on the body as you undergo your psychedelic experience.
What Are Shrooms?
Shrooms are a type of mushroom that contains a hallucinogen called psilocybin. Psilocybin works by activating serotonin receptors in the prefrontal cortex – the part of the brain that affects cognition, mood, and perception.
Typical hallucinogens work in regions of the brain that regulate panic responses and arousal. Psilocybin doesn’t always cause active auditory or visual hallucinations like other hallucinogens as a result. Instead, it distorts how you perceive people and objects already in the environment.
There are a number of factors that impact the effects of psilocybin. The quantity ingested, how you consume the shrooms, past experiences, expectations, people you’re around, places you’ll be, and a few other relationships can all play a factor into the intensity of your trip.
From shroom tea to lemon tekking to the good ole PB&J way, consuming shrooms continues to evolve. At Blue Goba, almost half their sales were thanks to shroom chocolates, the people’s new favorite way to journey, and for good reason!
What Is Shroom Chocolate?
Shroom chocolates are exactly what it sounds like. Technically called psilocybin mushroom chocolate, or magic mushroom chocolates, they're a type of edible that allows the consumption of this psychedelic in a tastier form. I mean, who doesn't like chocolate? Not counting any puppies, good boys, or good girls, of course…
Shroom chocolate is tastier than consuming shrooms on its own. They still provide the same high without the raw method of absorption. Because most chocolate products contain a consistent and controlled amount of magic mushrooms you also have a minimal risk of overdosing – you just need to follow the labeled directions.
As Vincent of Blue Goba shared on Super Psychedelic, shroom chocolates are on the rise. It's one of their best-selling products and you can find milk chocolate bars, cookies and cream, other shroom candies, and more on their site!
The History Of Shroom Chocolates
Cacao and mushrooms have a profound, ancient connection.
The long-form name of the cacao tree is theobroma cacao meaning “food of the gods.” Developed as an interpretation of how the indigenous Mesoamericans referred to the plant, cacao had divine status with central importance to indigenous culture. It was used in religious ceremonies reserved for the upper echelons of society.
Used in these same ceremonies was the teonanacatl mushroom, which translates to “flesh of the gods”. A fungus with divine status, it refers to the psychedelic mushroom psilocybe mexicana which was found native to Mesoamerica.
It’s well documented that the teonanacatl mushroom and cacao were consumed together in ritual – the food of the gods and flesh of the gods married in purpose.
Can You Make Shroom Chocolate At Home?
Yes! There are plenty of DIY recipes for shroom chocolates. You just have to make sure to follow the directions.
Shrooms will stay just as potent in chocolate as they are on their own, so you should only ever use 1:1 doses in your chocolate-making endeavors. You should also take note that the psilocybin within mushrooms quickly breaks down in high temperatures. Therefore you should never place your mushrooms in any overly hot substance.
Can You Microdose Shroom Chocolates?
What Is Microdosing?
A microdose is a sub-hallucinogenic dose of a psychedelic. These virtually unnoticeable or extremely subtle indirect effects can influence your health and wellbeing in many ways.
Microdosing psilocybin has recently gained popularity with people using it as a daily supplement rather than experiencing a deeper journey. In general, a microdose is 1/10th to 1/20th of a trip dose, however, every person is different and it can require some experimentation to find the dose that works for you.
Microdosing With Chocolate Shrooms
Microdosing psilocybin with chocolate is incredibly effective. While chocolate isn’t psychedelic, it does have psychoactive effects as a mood enhancer. Combined with shrooms, this makes for a delicious and effective microdosing vehicle. Plus, most retailers have divided the shroom chocolate bars so breaking them off to find your microdosing sweet spot is that much easier.
Cacao does increase the effect of psilocybin as it contains MAO-inhibitors that modulate neurotransmitters like serotonin. As a result, microdosing psilocybin with chocolate might result in a decreased dose needed.
Another benefit of microdosing with chocolate is that it helps your body to uptake the active components. The natural fat in cacao helps you absorb psilocybin.
Overall, microdosing with chocolate is an incredibly effective (and delicious) way to take psilocybin.
What Are The Benefits Of Shroom Chocolate?
Psilocybin Chocolate Is More Digestible
When you consume raw shrooms, you can experience some nausea.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that consuming shroom chocolate rather than raw shrooms does help with associated nausea. This is because chocolate is easier on the stomach than raw shrooms.
Granted, if something contains psilocybin, there is typically some type of physical response, from minor and temporary nausea to the infamous 'mushroom yawn.' This is typical when a person ingests shrooms and almost completely fades after the first hour. From then on, you get to enjoy magic mushrooms in all their beauty.
It Can Be Faster-Acting
The onset time for most psilocybin edibles tends to be within 30-45 minutes but there are ways to shave further minutes off that time.
Simply leave the edible in your mouth and don’t swallow it for a few minutes. This allows the psilocybin to enter your body through your tongue and mouth – one of the most absorbent spots in the body.
The Onset Is Smoother
Because the absorption of the psilocybin is more uniform, the onset of feelings plus the comedown after your peak is smoother ride. The edible chocolates helps smooth out these transitory edges of a trip.
They’re Easier To Microdose
Psychadelic microdosing has seen a rise in popularity in the last few years. It’s the practice of using sub-threshold doses of psychedelic drugs to improve a range of issues including treating depression or anxiety.
Psilocybin edibles are much easier to microdose than their raw counterparts. This is because you can measure exactly what’s going into each bar of chocolate.
It’s More Subtle
Shrooms are still classified as a restricted drug in much of the world. If you’re caught consuming or carrying them you can be in big trouble. While attitudes and laws are slowly changing, this means you must be careful. And by no means are we recommending you travel with shrooms. But who doesn’t travel with snacks, like fruit, chips, and chocolates?
Magic Mushroom Chocolate Is The Future
Magic mushrooms offer a host of health benefits to our minds, bodies, hearts, and souls. And should you take your trip to a different level with shroom chocolate, you may never look back. The stack of chocolate with magic mushrooms helps smooth the edges as you come up and come down, tastes great, and are inconspicuous in pantries, fridges, or backpacks.
